5 Questions to Answer When Designing an Outdoor Banner

Outdoor Banner An outdoor banner can be highly effective for developing your image, attracting attention to your brand or product, and giving information to customers and potential customers. But to be effective, the banner must be well-planned. A poor-quality banner will likely have the opposite effect to what you intend. When designing and printing an outdoor banner, think about the answers to the following key questions:

  1. What’s the Purpose of the Banner?

Sounds completely obvious, but many people do not have much of an idea what the message behind the banner will be. While pvc banners and pull up banners are relatively inexpensive compared to other forms of advertising, you do still need to make the most of your investment. Think about what you want your banner to do for you. What should be the result of placing your outdoor banner where people will see it?

So, for example, you may want banner printing to attract people into your store. Or have people sign up for membership of your organisation. Or attract attention to an event or special occasion. You may want an outdoor banner to give more information, such as directions to specific places at an outdoor event, or rules of a game.

  1. Where Will the Banner Be Displayed?

The location of the banner affects the font choice, message, and the colours used. If you are displaying an outdoor banner in a high-traffic area such as on the street or at a traffic crossing, your message must be very simple and the colours bold. People will have no more than a few seconds to see the banner and take notice of what it says.

  1. Is the Location Well-Lit?

If you are displaying an outdoor banner where there is little light or you also want your banner to be seen at night under headlights, use a reflective vinyl so that the banner attracts attention. All outdoor banners should use bold colours since it can be difficult to see lighter colours even when it is a sunny day.

  1. How Far Away Are the Viewers?

For attracting attention across a street, you need the biggest banner possible. If your audience will be standing right under your banner you do not need it to be oversized. But in general, the bigger the better when it comes to outdoor banners.

  1. Does the Banner Have a Call to Action?

Don’t forget to tell people what to do – Visit the Store Today! or Sign Up Now! People need some kind of time incentive and a direct call to action so they understand immediately what they need to do.
