Doug Burr is looking down to read my blog…
Many folks in and around the DFW area and even Texas will think I am a loser for just now coming to a certain realization. Doug Burr is kind of a big deal. He isn’t a new artist, and he isn’t just now breaking onto the scene, it is I that am behind the times when it comes to Mr. Burr. Cindy over at the Fine Line has been keen on him for a while, going back to his days in the band The Lonelies. Doug’s latest CD, On Promenade, is a laid back, folky-soul gem. You can even grab a downloadable track from Spune Production’s site (hurry, it wont be on there long). “Slow Southern Home” and “Should’ve Known” are featured on Burr’s Myspace and are representative of the rest of the new collection. With the pub and press for Dallas & Denton, TX bands going to St. Vincent, Midlake or Polyphonic Spree, I feel like artists like Mr. Burr go unnoticed outside of the clubs and coffee houses that make them such local favorites. It’s a shame and I feel embarassed that it has taken me this long to help spread the word. Get the new CD, get to his shows, and tell others to do the same.
